HYIP Investments vs. Gambling

Sad but true: getting profits from HYIPs is not as easy and fun as it used to be. With e-Gold services being sort of messy recently (click here to read more), many dishonest HYIP admins choose to fold down the operation and run away, using e-Gold troubles as a good pretext.

Aside from rare exceptions, most of newly established HYIP programs last less than few weeks, and hence putting money into them more and more resemble a game of fortune - if you were smart enough to get into it, get paid and withdraw funds, all in good time, before the HYIP collapsed - good. Otherwise - 'wishing you better luck next time!'...

I personally believe it may be more reasonable to wait out for a while, without entrusting sizable amounts to such unstable industry as HYIPs are nowadays. Either way, e-Gold business is bound to be back to normal soon, may be stronger and more powerfull than ever.

As if the below attempts were not enough, I got two more emails, this time pretending to be from AccountRobot_donotreply@e-gold.com (actual sender postmaster@ylkiute.com). The full text is below:

Access to your e-gold account has been temporarily disabled due to
the number of incorrect login attempts. This has been done to secure your account and to protect your private information in case the
login attemps were not done by you.
Account access will remain disabled until this issue will be solved.
If you are the rightful holder of the account, please click on the

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate

Apparently, if someone clicks on the above link, he would be redirected to a fake e-Gold site, where he can waive good-bye to his money. Quite old a trick, but if it is still used by scammers it must mean it still works for them :(
...well. With IFC Profit and Europe Trade dissapearing from all HYIP Monitors just a day before, it altogether makes for a very weird week-end. Scammers are hard at work 24/7, so do watch out. Better safe than sorry :)

Past Week-end Fake Emails Alert!..(Part I)

It must have been something in the air for the last few days - looks like scammers of all sorts and kinds are out this week-end trying their old dirty tricks.

To start with, I got an email entitled "Receipt for Your Payment to Debbie's RC, Inc." that appeared to be sent from service@paypal.com. It looked legit and good enough to fool anybody - unless you paid attention the following "red flags":
AA) I knew I made no such payment ever
BB) Customer's Shipping Details were out of the blue, with even the Country wrong :)
CC) email headers revealed it was actually sent from root@mailer.bronzecommnews.com
DD) when forwarded to spoof@paypal.com, it was confirmed to be spoof/fraud in a matter of minutes.
So, what is a scammer's Modus Operandi in this case? Quite simple. You receive a legit-looking email from PayPal, "confirming" that you have just paid $190 for some sporting goods. You are encouraged to "dispute the transaction" if you believe it erroneous. Since the whole email body is in fact a picture, like a screenshot, clicking on any part of it will redirect you to a fake PayPal website... the rest is obvious!

IFC Profit once again reported as "problem" on GoldPoll?

Once again, IFC Profit is getting undeserved slap from GoldPoll (scroll down the page to view our earlier posts on the subject). Most of 'bad votes' coming in on 16-17 January are from free email accounts, like hotmail, rediffmail and yahoo - isn't it a bit too obvious? Voters claim that they either "never got paid" or "had their accounts deleted" which is just ridiculous!

We personally are getting steady daily payouts from IFCP since 12 July 2006, with not a single day payment missed or delayed. The last payment we recieved is 16 January 2007:

Ouf! Glad to share we nailed and fixed problem with one of our e-Gold accounts. Just FYI, below is 'copy & paste' from e-Gold Support email, which might be of interest to anybody who is duly concerned about security issues.

You should never download anything even if it appears to come from e-gold, Ltd. You should also check your computer for Spyware and Trojan keyloggers. Some people mistakenly assume that anti-virus software protects them from keyloggers and Spyware. Most anti-virus software does not adequately check for keyloggers and Spyware. If you have checked all the computers used to access your account with only an anti virus software, we strongly recommend you use a software that specifically checks for Spyware and keyloggers. There are Trojans keyloggers that monitors Internet Explorer windows until a user visits the e-gold login page: https://e-gold.com/acct/login.html. Once the user is logged in, the Trojan opens a hidden Internet Explorer window in which it accesses the user's account balance: https://e-gold.com/acct/balance.asp . After ascertaining the value of the user's account it attempts to transfer their funds to another account using the hidden window.

Most viruses are conveyed by spammed e-mail in the form of HTML messages.The scripts run on viewing, no clicking on attachments is necessary. They may also arrive as image attachments. Once the image is viewed, the programis executed. Either way, the system is now infected and is just waiting for you to check your e-gold account balance. You can protect yourself by:

* Using another browser instead of Internet Explorer (IE). Firefox byMozilla is an excellent choice. You can visit www.mozilla.org for more information.
* Do Not auto-preview incoming e-mail.
* Do Not open obvious spam.

As of today we know specifically of 6 viruses that could cause a problem similar to the one you are having.
1. Win32/Goldun.ia (One customer said he did not find anything when he ran Norton and McAfee anti-virus software, but he found the Win32/Goldun.iaTrojan when he used a software called 'Kaspersky')
2. T SPY_HAXDORY (A customer who was receiving the fake login confirmation page located a virus with Trend Micro Housecall identified as T SPY_HAXDORY. Removing this seemed to solve the problem without having to reinstallwindows.)
3. TROJ_GOLDUN.DO which has a file named CPU.EXE found in the c:\windowsdirectory. This was found with Trend Micro's PC-cillin.4. cpu.exe (Aladinz.l Trojan) more information regarding this virus can befound at http://www.auditmypc.com/process/cpu.asp
5. GDIWXP.DLL
6. pwsteal.trojan

Today we discovered an unauthorized withdrawl on our e-Gold account. Luckily, it was for a small amount, but nevertheless alarming. Preliminary investigations made us to believe that the problem was due to downloading malware file from e-gold-invest.com. Do take extra care if ever dealing with these folks, or better yet - AVOID at all costs!
